On july 3rd, Patrick Barbe, with the
kind permission of M. Chalhoub and the fighting spirit
of John Hammond, leased the G.III winner Gruntled
to participate in the first President Cup held in
Moscow over 2000 meter, with $100,000 of prize money,
in presence of President W. Poutine and the Presidents
of twelve other republics. Gruntled finished a brave second, cleverly
ridden by Frederic Spanu, but defeated by Akbash,
the local champion, winning his 8th consecutive race •
